Carol Carson has been engaged in the real estate and lending industries for more than 30 years and has focused on consumer protection laws and regulatory compliance matters related to residential mortgage banking for more than 25 years. In roles with national and regional banks and thrifts, independent mortgage banking firms, and law firms, Ms. Carson has assisted in ensuring compliance with all applicable rules of operations. As a compliance specialist with a major law firm, Ms. Carson primarily participated in development of strategies for and communication with regulatory authorities concerning client mergers and acquisitions and defending clients in enforcement actions with HUD, VA, and Attorneys General, in addition to conducting research and preparing memoranda on various regulatory topics. In positions of increasing responsibility in bank, thrift and mortgage company environments, Ms. Carson was charged with research, development and implementation of policies, procedures and training programs to ensure compliance with federal requirements including, for example, the Fair Housing Act, CRA, TILA, RESPA, ECOA, FCRA, HMDA, BSA, Privacy regulations and applicable state disclosure and operational requirements and restrictions. Her duties also included responsibility for company and branch state mortgage banking licenses and business licenses, regulatory reporting, and state examinations and agency audits and consumer complaint resolution, as well as corporate recordkeeping and filings with state secretaries of state. In addition, working directly with boards of directors, Ms. Carson created and implemented plans and programs for a compliance management system and internal audit.
Ms. Carson received post-graduate legal assistant certification from the University of San Diego. She also holds a BA degree (magna cum laude) from NC Wesleyan College and a MBA degree (with honors) from National University.
Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President for Guild Mortgage Company
Lisa Klika is the Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President for Guild Mortgage Company. Guild is a leading privately owned mortgage banking company that was established in 1960 and is headquartered in San Diego, California. Guild has over 300 branch offices and lends throughout the United States via its retail and correspondent divisions. The company also services a portfolio of approximately $25 billion in loans. Lisa oversees the Compliance Management Division at Guild and is responsible for the company’s fair lending, compliance, internal audit, quality assurance, and legal matters. Lisa manages state and federal regulatory agency filings, licensing, consumer complaints, regulatory inquiries and audits, analyzes regulatory changes and areas of risk to assess impact to the company. She directs related policy and operational changes, including the design of proprietary LOS controls, to ensure compliance with major regulatory changes such as the TILA RESPA Integrated Disclosure rule. Lisa graduated with a B.S. from Oregon State University and is working towards a M.S. in Executive Leadership at the University of San Diego. She graduated from the MBA’s Future Leaders Program in 2007 and the California MBA’s Future Leaders Program in 2009. Lisa served as Chairperson of the MBA’s Regulatory Compliance Sub-Committee from 2010 to 2013.
